Since 2002, the International Migrants' Development Fund has been supporting immigrants in Washington, D.C. by providing them with the financial skills and training necessary to access the formal financial system and succeed in the United States.


Pati, an entrepreneur at the Mi Tierra open market run by The International Migrants' Development Fund, came to the United States to support her three children in Mexico. "Back there, just surviving day to day is a struggle," says Pati. At first Pati sold her tamales on the street and hid from police. Since joining the city-run market, Pati is now a licensed street vendor with a growing business.
