EN PODER! POWERED LATINAS PROJECT!
|
Workshop session at the Family Place,
October, 2007. |
Latinas en Poder! is a project of FIDMi-SEMILLAS,
in partnership with the Washington Area Women’s Foundation.
(Download
Information; Spanish - English).
The objective of this project is to promote the financial independence and leadership of Latina immigrants, particularly, those whom are financially responsible for their families (head of family). Latinas en Poder! trains women to become financial promoters, advocates and organizers, around wealth building and financial access. A video was created in June 2008, to share with members of the community the experiences of Latinas en Poder! Promotoras reaching out to Latina immigrants and about their experiences around money management and assets building.
Latinas en Poder! has created a Savings Club by which women interested in creating savings plan for education or business development can receive advanced training in those particular areas. Through the Savings Club those women that qualify for an Individual Development Account (IDA) may be able to match three times more the amount of money saved.
The IDA program is sponsored by the Capital Area Assets Builders. Participants can match up to $1,000
